Four local residents charged in drug, weapon investigation: OPP

Accused are from Barrie, Innisfil and Springwater; police say officers seized firearm and approximately 905 grams of illicit substances

Four people have been charged following a lengthy investigation by Huronia West OPP.

Four local residents have been charged following a lengthy drug investigation led by provincial police. 

Police say officers from the Huronia West OPP major crime and community street crime units seized a firearm and approximately 905 grams of illicit substances.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 5, police say officers began arresting suspects following an investigation that began in October 2024.

The investigation remains ongoing. 

Kamba Taban, 31, of Innisfil, has been charged with: 

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid other than heroin)
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.

Lianne Gervais, 46, of Springwater, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid other than heroin)
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Gaston Abar, 50, of Springwater, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid other than heroin)
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.

Hailey Boyle, 27, of Barrie, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine).

None of the allegations have been tested in court. 

The OPP says Taban and Abar were held for a bail hearing while the other two accused were released from custody on an undertaking and will appear later in court.
